North American Alliance of Skal Clubs (NAASC) – Riviera Maya, May 13 – 17, 2015
Holly Powers, SIUSA Representative and Phil Stamm, Past President represented the Boston Club at the NAASC Congress held at the Barcelo’ Maya Beach Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Skal delegates from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean participated in this annual conference. 47 of the 51 US clubs were in attendance. The opening ceremonies featured a presentation of flags from the participating countries and welcome addresses from Skal International President Salei Cene as well as officials from Mexico.
President Cene announced that the Skal World Congress, scheduled for October 2015 in Kenya had been cancelled due to terrorism threats. The congress will take place in southern Spain and details will follow by the end of June.
Proposal for by law changes were proposed and voted on or tabled until the National Committee Meeting, to be held in Las Vegas in August.
A Region 1 meeting was held with newly elected VP Steve Richer, from the Washington DC club. 13 out of 14 Clubs in region 1 were in attendance.
Skal Boston was recognized for hosting the very successful SIUSA Winter Board meeting this past January and was honored by the SIUSA Board and other clubs as being professional and a club that should be the model for all clubs.
