    Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum location for September Meeting

    On a warm September night, Skal International Boston held an evening meeting at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum.  Members got to participate in a reenactment of the historic meeting at Boston’s Old North Church that lead up to the start of the Revolutionary War.  They were introduced to the patriots who were ready to lose everything for freedom.  Members also had a chance toss tea into Boston Harbor and then view one of the two remaining tea boxes that survived the incident.     Four Seasons Hotel host Skal Boston August Meeting

    August 20th was a warm sunny day in Boston and what better location to have our August meeting than at the fantastic Four Seasons Hotel overlooking the Boston Public Gardens. President Julie welcomed members and guests and introduced our host for the event, Bill Taylor. General Manager, Bill Taylor  gave the Skal Toast.  He and his staff prepared a cocktail reception and delicious lunch for everyone to enjoy. Past President and Scholarship Chairman, Chris Pappas presented this years Keith Staples Scholarship recipient, Samantha Lee with a $2,500 scholarship.  Samantha is an outstanding student and Skal Boston was thrilled to award her the scholarship.  She expressed her gratitude at being selected…

    New England Aquarium location for July Meeting

    On Thursday, July 18, Skal Boston has a clambake luncheon under the tent at the New England Aquarium on Central Wharf.  Debra Borgwardt, Director of Sales welcomed our members and presented the Skal Toast. The afternoon started with an outside cocktail reception with open bar and passed hors d’oeu’vres.  The location offered our members and guests a wonderful view of the harbor on a beautiful summer day with many boats going by. Lunch was a traditional New England Clambake with all the fixings.  A raffle and live auction completed the casual afternoon.     Skal Boston Visits Historic Newport, RI for their June Meeting

    June 18 was a warm sunny day and perfect for an outing to beautiful and historic Newport, RI.  The venue for Skal Boston’s June meeting was the magnificent “Marble House” operated by the Preservation Society of Newport County. Marble House was built between 1888 – 1892 for Mr & Mrs William K Vanderbilt.  It was a summer house or “cottage” as Newporters called them.  It is a social and architectural landmark.  The house in 1892 cost $11 million dollars with $7 million spend on 500,000 cubic feet of marble.  On construction of the house Mr Vanderbilt gave the house to his wife as a 39th birthday present.  In 2006 Marble…

    May 16th Skal Meeting at Historic Fenway Park Honored our Past Presidents

    Wally the Green Monster welcomed Skal Boston members and guests to historic landmark, Fenway Park on Thursday, May 16.  The cocktail reception was held above 1st base and the large screen welcomed Skal Boston to the park. The luncheon featured vegetables grown in the roof garden at Fenway. Carrie Campbell, Skal Boston Secretary and VP of Sales of Boston Red Sox Fenway Enterprises,  gave the Skal Toast and welcomed everyone to the Park. President Julie Doherty Pagano introduced 14 past presidents.  Karen Leaver, wife of Past President, Bruce Leaver helped unveil a portrait of Bruce that will be used as we raise additional funds for the Bruce Leave Scholarship Fund…

    North American Alliance of Skal Clubs (NAASC) – Riviera Maya, May 13 – 17, 2015

    Holly Powers, SIUSA Representative and Phil Stamm, Past President represented the Boston Club at the NAASC Congress held at the Barcelo’ Maya Beach Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.  Skal delegates from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean participated in this annual conference.  47 of the 51 US clubs were in attendance.  The opening ceremonies featured a presentation of flags from the participating countries and welcome addresses from Skal International President Salei Cene as well as officials from Mexico. President Cene announced that the Skal World Congress, scheduled for October 2015 in Kenya had been cancelled due to terrorism threats.  The congress will take place in southern Spain…

    Seaport Hotel hosts Skal Boston April 2015 meeting

    On April 16, 2015 Skal Boston members were hosted for their monthly meeting at Bostons  Seaport Hotel by President, Managing Director   David O’Shaughnessy, Marianna Accomando, VP of Sales and Jim Carmody. Executive Chef, Richard Rayment prepared a wonderful cocktail reception and luncheon served by the banqueting staff headed by Julia Corbin, Director of Banquets and Elizabeth Dipple, Banquet Manager. Wonderful raffle and auction items raised $895 for our Skal Charities. Trish Berry, General Manager of the Battery Wharf Hotel and Tim Colleran, Director Client Management were pinned as new members.     Congratulations Skal Boston VP, Dan Donahue

    On April 14 in Washington DC,  the American Hotel & Lodging Association presented their annual awards.  This years winner for Outstanding General Manager of the year, small property was awarded to Dan Donahue, General Manager of Boston’s Lenox Hotel. Another Boston property won the Special Event Category for their “Winter on the Wharf” program.     SRRING COMES TO SKAL BOSTON WITH “A WALK IN THE PARK” AT THE FAIRMONT COPLEY PLAZA HOTEL ON MARCH 19, 2015

    Although Boston still has a great deal of snow on the ground, spring is just around the corner and Paul Tormey and his wonderful staff at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel treated 81 Skal Boston members to an early “Walk in the Park” at the March 19 meeting. The meeting features the hotel ballroom decorated with magnificent spring flowers and even a grass table runner.  Models wearing spring fashions walked the room while bunnies, baby chicks, ducks and baby swans where in a petting area.     President Julie Doherty Pagano starts Presidency with Luncheon at the Boston Harbor Hotel

    More snow did not prevent the hardy Boston Skallegues from attending President Julie Doherty Pagano’s first meeting on February19 at the Boston Harbor Hotel.  Over 80 members trekked through the mountains of snow to attend the meeting. Stephen Johnson, Skallegue and General Manager of the Boston Harbor Hotel was unable to attend but had Jennifer McMahon, Director of Sales & Marketing along with Rachel Stiglets, Director of Catering (wife of Skal member Brian Stiglets) and Chef Daniel Bruce welcome our members and participated in the Skal Toast.
